San Diego 2009
The day was spent window shopping and on the waterfront in La Jolla.
Early morning. The fog had blown away and I was able to get a good closeup shot of the USS Ronald Reagon from my hotel room.
Another view of the USS Ronald Reagan.
A navy patrol boat making the rounds.
Point Loma on the right. This is where the San Deigo Bay empties out into the Pacific Ocean. We visited here on our last day. I used a telephoto lens to get this shot from my hotel room.
La Jolla. I took this photo above the Scripps Oceanography Institute.
This is a very steep and winding road. This kid is insane, in my opinion, but I have to give him credit as he made it all the way down without taking a spill.
La Jolla has about twenty of these sculptures placed all around the downtown area. These are new and were not here last year. Some are pretty interesting.
La Valencia Hotel. It is a very old and wonderful hotel with great views of the Pacific Ocean.
Downtown La Jolla. Downtown is mostly composed of very expensive clothing and art shops and some pretty good restaurants.
Another cow sculpture. The other sculptures in this photo are pretty nice too.
View of the some of the homes in La Jolla.
This cove was right below the Italian restaurant Acqua where we had lunch. The restaurant has a great view of the ocean.
Another cow sculpture.
Side entrance to the La Valencia hotel.
La Jolla downtown park.
La Valencia as seen from the park.
Sea Gulls nesting.
Outcropping on the beach.
A guy hoping to score lunch.
The winds were favorable and the gliders were out today. Can you see one of the gliders right about in the center of the photo?
Three pelicans gliding just above the water.
Four pelicans flying abreast.
Pelicans are funning looking creatures.
It seems that pelicans and seals share this rock. The seals take the left half of the rock, the pelicans the right.
Photo of a bunch of pelicans. You don't want to know what the white stuff is. If you look closely you can see some seals in the upper left hand corned of this photo.
This seal slid down the rock to cool down in the water.
This little guy found a cracker almost as big as him and had a feast.
A seal checking out the surroundings.
This is a World War II era torpedo dive bomber.
A couple of kayakers.
A baby seal coming onto shore. I got a kick at how it had his little tail sticking right up.
A baby seal in the shallows.
Seal working its way up onto a rock.
Seal sunning itself.
The baby wanted to join its mother and struggled quite a long time to get up onto the rock. The waves kept washing it off just as it was about to get up.
A couple of baby seals.
Interesting rock formations.
A bunch of sailboats off in the distance.
Sailboats close up.
These condos are right on the waterfront. They must each be worth a small fortune.
I really liked how this tree was all knarled up.
A couple of kids were flying their kites.
La Jolla. You can see some of the beautiful homes in the background.
The water has really done interesting things with the sandstone.
You can see how the water has cut out the sandstone in very unique way.
This shot was taken during low tide. If you walked around you would see crabs in the cracks and shallow pools of water. The sea gulls were having a feast.
I am not sure what this guy was up to. I've never seen someone with a surfboard and a paddle before. He pretty much stayed upright the whole time I saw him so it seems to work for him.
Preening and sleeping.
This couple got stuck on the rocks. She eventually fell out and I felt quite sorry for her because the waves slammed her into the rocks a couple of times before she got back on the kayak.
If you look closely you can see the coronado bridge in blue reflecting off the building next to my hotel.
Coronado Bridge reflection.
Coronado Bridge reflection. Close up.
These are condos which are very close to the water line near the convention center. They are right next to a rail line making for a covenient commute for a lot of people who live there.
Flowers outside the convention center.
I liked this photo because of how the row of palm trees and the building balance each other out.
Interesting shot don't you think?
The marina right behind the Mariott Hotel.
This shot was taken from Seaport Village and highlights one of the Hyatt's two towers.
Seaport Village. You can take cinderalla rides if you have an inclination.
Seaport Village. A guy was putting on a show with a bunch of different parrots.
Seaport Village. Parrot show.
Seaport Village. Flower bed.
Partial view of the Coronado Bridge and island. This photo was taken from Seaport Village.
Working our way back to Gaslamp Quarter. These are all condos.
A little park near the light rail line.
I really liked the way this photo turned out.
Everybody is waiting for the light to turn green.
